Welcome Aboard the Fort Collins Municipal Railway!
We operate Fort Collins Birney Safety Car 21,
one of four cars purchased by the City in 1919. Birney cars provided daily
service until 1951. Afterwards, car 21 sat in a park for almost three decades.
We restored it, rebuilt the line on West Mountain Ave., and now operate the car
on weekend afternoons from May through September.
We are the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society,
an all-volunteer organization working with the city of
Fort Collins, CO
to provide a heritage streetcar experience.

Drop By to Visit Car 25
Fort Collins Municipal Railway streetcar 25 (show below) returned to Fort Collins earlier this year. Car 25 was one two streetcars the city purchased in 1946 to help keep the aging system running. After the system shut down in June 1951, car 25 spent time in Victor, CO, Columbia, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. We purchased car 25 last year and are now developing a plan to restore the car to operation along with car 21 on the rebuilt West Mountain Ave. line.
We held our first 'open house' August 23 at the old carbarn on North Howes St.
In addition to future open houses that we'll announce in local papers, you're welcome to drop in whenever the doors are open to visit with us.
