RCVFD ISO Rating

Great news!  RCVFD has been notified that effective May 1, 2005, we will be rated as fire protection class 9/10 by the Insurance Service Organization (ISO).  This process has been a long time coming and a lot of people have worked on it – but it is finally here.  The May 1 date allows ISO to notify insurance agencies.

What is does ISO 9/10 mean for me?

Hopefully, saved money on your homeowners insurance.  RCVFD Station 1 and Station 3 will receive ISO-9 rating.  ISO-9 is valid for any residence/structure within 5 road miles of either of these stations.  This will cover a significant portion of our response area.  So – if you want to know if you are within the ISO-9 rating area – you need to know if you are within 5 road miles of one of these stations.   If you house address is accurately reflected in mapping programs like Mapquest or Mappoint – you can use your address, and the addresses of the stations – to calculate the distance to your house.  For this purpose, use the addresses:

·         RCVFD Station One – 11822 Rist Canyon Road

·         RCVFD Station Three – 17457 Rist Canyon Road

NOTE:  Many insurance companies already give RCVFD residents a ISO class, so this may or may not help you.

What if I’m not within 5 miles of these stations?

Unfortunately, ISO-9 applies only to stations 1 and 3, and only to residents within 5 miles.  This is defined by ISO, not RCVFD so we cannot impact it.  If you are outside these ranges, you will be ISO-10.  This may or may not help you with your insurance costs.  It depends on the insurance company.

Why can’t other RCVFD stations be ISO-9

Because of the equipment at those stations.  ISO-9 requires minimum of 325 gallons of water on the truck and things like 24” extension ladder, 14” roof ladder – etc.  The smaller “Type 6x” trucks at Stations 4 and 5 have 250 gallons and cannot carry the ladders.   The truck at Station 2 could possibly be configured for ISO-9, but it is unlikely that ISO would accept a 1943 truck as a primary responder.  Also – I think that all of Davis Ranch is within 5 miles of station 1 – just barely- so upgrading the engine at station 2 would add no area.
