Who We Are
The Larimer
Chorale, founded in 1977, is the largest classical choral group in
northern
Colorado featuring over 110 auditioned adult voices. Our diverse
repertoire includes works by the masters of classical choral music,
including Bach, Mozart, Brahms, and Beethoven. We also perform
lighter music, such as pieces by Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd
Webber, and other 19th- and 20th-century composers. Our singers
volunteer their time (over 20,000 hours per year), attend weekly
rehearsals, and perform three or more concerts from September through
May. We
are a member of the nonprofit organization, the Larimer Choral
Society, along with the Centennial
Children's Chorus, Colorado
Youth Chorale, and Choice City
Singers.
Our Mission
The
Larimer Chorale, an auditioned symphonic chorus based in Fort Collins,
is committed to presenting choral music at a high artistic standard,
with an emphasis on choral-orchestral masterworks, and to enriching and
educating singers and audiences throughout northern Colorado through
live performances, recordings, workshops, and the creation of new
choral works.
Our History
Since 1977, the Chorale has performed
with numerous orchestras and choirs, including the Boulder
Philharmonic, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Breckenridge Music
Festival Orchestra, the Cheyenne Symphony, the Fort Collins Symphony
Orchestra, the Colorado Wind Ensemble, the Cherry Creek Chorale, and
the Pueblo Chorale. The Chorale has participated in Fort Collins'
First Night Celebrations, the grand opening and anniversary
celebrations of the Fort Collins Lincoln Center, the Fort Collins
Symphony Orchestra's Cranberry Pops Concert, and the St. Luke's Bach
Festival and Boulder's Mahlerfest. The Chorale has also invited
the Centennial Children's Chorus, Choice City Singers, local high
school choirs and chamber orchestras, and Colorado State University
choirs to perform with us.
Our touring
Chamber Choir has participated in music festivals and performed in
historic cathedrals, performance halls, and churches in Western Europe
and the British Isles. In 1998, the Choir sang for services at San
Marco in Venice and at the Duomo in Florence, Italy. In July, 2001, the
Choir was invited to sing in a Sunday mass at Notre Dame de Paris and
in a concert at the Madeleine during their tour of France.
In 2007, a small
group of Chorale singers formed the Larimer Chamber Chorale. This
group performs works intended for more intimate settings than the large
auditoriums used by the full Chorale. In 2009, another small
group of Chorale singers formed the Dickens
Carolers who provide entertainment at our Dickens Dinners
fund-raisers and are available for various community celebrations and
functions as well as private parties throughout the holiday season.
