Brad Butler- Founder of Bright Beginnings |
In 1995, Brad Butler, former CEO of Procter and Gamble, and then governor Roy Romer
set out to establish a non-governmental, statewide,
non-profit program based on the
premise that strong families are the basis of strong communities and the foundations
for productive citizens.
Bright Beginnings-Larimer County is one of 13 regional offices across Colorado. Each region is adopted by a local sponsor and funded with regional resources. In Larimer County, Poudre Valley Health System Foundation sponsors the program. All programs rely heavily on volunteers and local donations to produce a highly cost effective service. Core Bright Beginnings materials are supplied by the state office, covering basic development and parenting information. Each regional office enhances the core materials with information about local family resources and programs. Our trained volunteers share free, accurate information with parents about child development, health, safety, community resources, and the importance of interacting with their baby in ways that support strong attachment and optimal brain development. Our follow-up program for one-year olds is called Moving On. Parents meet in a baby friendly atmosphere to learn about language development and how to promote school readiness. Who Do We Serve? Whether the family has one or five children, has a low or high income, or the parents are married or single, all babies deserve a Warm Welcome. Visit request cards are available through local hospitals, partner agencies, or upon request. Moving On participants can sign up by calling us. All parents who recieved a Warm Welcome visit for their infant will recieve a Moving On postcard in the mail when their child is a year old. Who Volunteers as a Warm Welcome Visitor? Community Volunteers are people who want to help parents succeed with the tough task of parenting. Our Warm Welcome volunteers are parents, grandparents, students and other people who believe that informed, connected parents are a vital link to strong communities. |
