The Peak to Pub Ride Needs Your Help!
The Peak to Pub ride is a "show and go" ride, which means there are no official ride leaders. Because of that, rider safety is something we all have to help maintain. To help ensure the ride is as safe as possible, please consider the following guidelines when out on the road during a Peak to Pub ride:
Please follow all rules of the road. If every rider did this, nothing more would need to be said!
- Rider/motorist altercations often occur during the early part of the ride, when everyone is "bunched up." If you ride with friends, please consider staggering your departure so we're spread out more. This is particularly important when we travel south on Lemay. The intersection of Lemay and Trilby has been an ongoing problem location.
- Please don't ride out into the traffic lane unless you're passing another cyclist. And, if you do pass someone, please look behind you before passing.
- The second biggest source of rider/driver problems have been at stop signs. Please be courteous of other drivers and stagger your starts when leaving a 3 or 4-way stop sign. We should extend the same courtesy to other motorists that we do when we're in our car waiting our turn at a stop sign intersection.
For your safety, remember that hand signals or audible alerts like "slowing" or "stopping" will let riders behind you know that you are slowing or stopping and prevent you from having someone ride into your backside.
Thank you for helping make the Peak to Pub ride a safe one!
Maps of suggested routes are provided here on the web site, so print one out for your use. Participants ride both road or mountain bikes. Helmets are required. The group welcomes riders of all skill levels to join us for the weekly road rides to enjoy the great Colorado outdoors with people interested in bicycling fun and socializing. Please follow all the Rules of the Road while riding these rides.
Rides start at 5:30 PM. In the beginning of the season the suggested rides will be about one hour long and cover around apx. 20+ miles. Throughout the season, as the daylight extends into the evening, we increase the time and lengths of the ride up to approximately 35 miles. For those cyclists not interested in riding as far, they are encouraged to shorten the route at their discretion. Bicycling Magazine listed this ride among the top five recreational club rides in America in 2002!
After bicycling upon returning to the starting parking lot, many people in the group will stay to socialize, have dinner and a beverage at one of the local restaurants. Jackson's has extended an invitation to the riders to stop in for dinner and/or beverages and is giving a 20% discount on food for ride participants. The main goal is to have fun. Ride participants often get together after the Wednesday rides to plan rides on the weekend to different local destinations.
