The Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association (NCBA) is an organization of both hobbyist and commercial beekeepers. We exist to provide a forum for education in beekeeping and for exchange of ideas and experiences. We also enjoy some ability to provide savings in equipment and bees by purchasing as a group. We are affiliated with the Colorado Beekeepers Association.

We meet once a month with the above objectives in mind. Each meeting strives to discuss one or two subjects of interest in beekeeping. Whenever possible we will discuss beekeeping and hive maintenance activities appropriate for the next month. We also like to provide time for members to discuss beekeeping among themselves.

Once a year, usually around January, we conduct a multisession beginning beekeeping class. On completion of the class, we offer you the opportunity to join the association, to order beekeeping equipment and bees, and we offer you a mentor to help you get off to a good start.

If you have any interest in keeping bees, we encourage you to join us. We believe joining a beekeeping association such as ours is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to start beekeeping. By joining now you will receive our news letter as well as notification of upcoming classes and meetings. Dues are modest and affiliates members with the Colorado Beekeepers Association.

Swarm and Hive Removal

Swarm season has ended for 2010. NCBA will offer honey bee swarm removal again in the spring of 2011. If you are not sure what a swarm of honey bees looks like please click here

If you need to have a colony of honey bees removed from your property, call the hotline and we will send a qualified hive removal person from your area to make an estimate of the cost. Click here to see examples of honey bee colonies in homes and trees.

3rd ANNUAL HONEY PARTY, Thursday, September 9th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This year's party will also feature the second annual photo contest and the first annual awards ceremony! It will be held at Fairgrounds Park in Loveland (same place as last year). As always, the family is invited. Details to follow but mark your calendars now! Also, get to preparing those photo entries, too!

In October, we will switch to our winter meeting hours and will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. We have not set the venue nor the date at this time but we would like you all to please remember that this is a very important meeting because it is our annual Election of Officers.

Farmers, gardeners & orchard growers:

Gardeners--we offer a gardener-beekeeper matching service. If you are interested in having beehives on your property, please contact us. We will attempt to partner your hive request with a beekeeper in your area. There are many more gardeners than beekeepers so not all requests can be satisfied. The preferred site is sheltered on one side, free from roaming pets and small children and free from aerial pesticide spraying.

Looking for a good bee tree?

The Greenspire Linden is a great choice for Colorado. Many Northern Colorado cities are planting this beautiful tree. The Linden blooms in late June and lasts for about three weeks. Honey Bees prefer this to just about anything else available during this time period and it makes a fine light honey.
