Summary for putting your information on FortNet
See the steps for more detail.
- Read the Welcome Letter.
Fill out the Information Provider
Application and
Agreement.
See Forms and Agreements
for more details.
- Once all the needed information is received an account will
be created for you and you will receive email confirmation. If you wish
to have your own Domain Name contact us to discuss arrangements
and fees.
- Read the FortNet HTML QA standards.
These are designed to help you develop pages that look nice on
ALL of the browsers viewing the pages, not just the one you use.
FortNet's HTML
skeleton
will help you get started on the right track.
- Create your web pages. You can either create them
yourself, ask to have a
volunteer create them for you or use
outside contractors.
- Publish your pages on FortNet by uploading them through
FTP.
- Check that your pages pass the WebLint requirement by running
WebLint on them. You
can also run HTML QA on
them. If there are problems, fix them. If you need help
you can get help at the HTML Team
meetings or by sending a message to html@fortnet.org(the HTML
Team mailing list).
- Once you believe the pages are ready, send e-mail to
htmlqa@fortnet.org
indicating that there is new information to be validated and
its URL(e.g. http://www.fortnet.org/INFOPROVIDER/).
- FortNet's quality assurance(QA)
team will validate that the information conforms to FortNet's standards
and send you a response.
Depending on how busy our volunteers are, this can take a couple
of weeks.
It will be quicker if you have already ensured that your pages
meet the standards(especially WebLint).
- Once everything passes QA, you should fill out the
URL submittal page
to get your pages listed in FortNet's listing. You probably
also want to submit
your URL to the main search engines.
