Harmony House is Unique
Harmony House is one of a kind in northern Colorado and a model being copied in several other communities. No children live in these wonderful old farmhouses, but they are a home-like setting for many family visits and exchanges. Children who come to Harmony House find a house with toys and games, comfortable homey furnishings, a fenced yard with swings, a sand box and a basketball net. Parents can fix dinner in the kitchen or they can eat a picnic dinner under a big cottonwood tree. Harmony House provides a safe, non-threatening setting.Harmony House Meets a Growing Need
Harmony House meets a growing need in our community. Two groups of people use Harmony House: children of divorced parents and children who have been abused or neglected.Children of divorce have the right to see and get to know both their parents. They don't need to be part of or a witness to their parents' unhappiness with each other. Exchanges at Harmony House allow them to move from one parent to another without witnessing their parents' animosity. Sometimes, however, the Court has decided the noncustodial parent should have visits with his or her children but that the visit should be supervised by a third party. Harmony House makes these visits possible.
Children in foster care also need to see their parents if reunification of their family is ever to take place. Whether abused or neglected, these children still love and want to see their parents. If there is not a need for a strict, therapeutic visit, Harmony House can offer a supervised visit in a relaxed and comfortable setting where for a few hours these children can feel safe while they enjoy time with their parents.
