FORT COLLINS AUDUBON SOCIETY
BOARD MEETING
Minutes for March 4, 1999

The next board meeting: to be announced.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Sue Kenney, Bill Miller, Linda McNamara, Dale Agger, Scott Baily, Jon Burch, Dave Dubois, Ron Harden, Cynthia Melcher, Rick Schroeder, Dick Stiehl, Barb Turnbull

PRESIDENT: Sue announced that we will need a new program chairperson. Gallenstein is leaving and her position will need to be filled. There is also an open position for board member at large, since Seemueller has resigned. There is some question about needing to fill the population and habitat coordinator position since Sue is not able to get in touch with Dietrich. The chair of the education committee is also available as Rick has indicated he would like to pass that on. With 4 positions open the Board had discussion on how to recruit additional people and get them involved.

SECRETARY: Revised minutes for the past meetings were distributed and approved. The Board decided to begin posting meeting minutes on the Web.

FIELD TRIPS: The field trip coordinator will post a short summary of the field trips on the Web after each outing.

PUBLICITY: After reviewing the distribution of program flyers, the board decided we had good coverage for now. Distribution includes the Coloradoan, KUNC, the Fort Collins Public Library, CSU, and Wild Birds Unlimited among others. Stiehl will look into doing an electronic distribution of the announcements.

EDITOR: We are still trying to get the newsletter out further in advance of the monthly meetings. Please pay to the new deadline.

POPULATION AND HABITAT: Miller suggested that the board looked into having a committee for the population and habitat and conservation groups, instead of a single chair as we have been trying to do.

CONSERVATION and CAC: Harden discussed the effort to pass US legislation on wilderness status for BLM lands in southwest Colorado canyon country. A CAC motion passed to support the effort and each chapter is asked to do so also. Our board agreed to adopt the resolution "Colorado Citizens Wilderness Proposal for BLM lands."

NEW BUSINESS: There was discussion on how Audubon could participate in the Colorado Field Ornithologist's conference. The Fort Collins Audubon Society will sponsor a field trip on Sunday May 23 beginning at 6:30 a.m. led by Harden. The board discussed whether or not to display a banner on College Avenue or to sponsor coffee and doughnuts before the Sunday morning field trip. Our decision was to sponsor coffee and doughnuts for however many mornings $50.00 will cover AND to donate $100.00 for a display ad in the Coloradoan advertising the conference, which will include our name and logo. Sue will be in touch will Rachel Kolokoff on the details.

The Greeley Audubon society, Platte and Prairie, may be sponsoring a weekend trip to Crow Valley Campground in May. Baily will look into whether this lends itself to a combined event or not.

Two topics were tabled for the next meeting: the revised bylaws and the adopt a natural area program.
